The Cohansey River snakes through the southern landscape of this New Jersey quadrangle, defining the low-lying wetlands of the Green Swamp and the agricultural plains above it. Small rural settlements and crossroad hamlets like Shiloh, Roadstown, and Marlboro are connected by a network of colonial-era routes such as Shiloh Pike and Old Stagecoach Rd. The geography is notably shaped by water-powered industry of the past, with several milling sites including Sheppards Mill, Mickles Mill, and Davis Mill situated along the creeks. Aviation also marks the terrain here, with small private fields like Wide Sky Airpark and B J Farms Airport interspersed among the farmsteads. To the east, the western edge of Bridgeton appears, while the southern reaches near Bacons Neck show the river's transition into tidal marshes. Local history is well-preserved through several burial grounds, including the Cumberland County Veterans Cem and Fernwood Cem.
