The Upper Geyser Basin serves as the focal point of this late nineteenth-century survey, documented just a few years after the establishment of Yellowstone National Park. Early tourist infrastructure is visible at the Old Faithful Hotel, situated near iconic hydrothermal features like the Beehive Geyser, Giant Geyser, and Splendid Geyser. The landscape is dominated by the massive Madison Plateau and Pitchstone Plateau, separated by the Firehole River corridor.
