The Huron National Forest landscape in Iosco County is defined by the managed waters of the Au Sable River valley. The sprawling Cooke Dam Pond and Foote Dam Pond dominate the northern terrain, separated by the elevated Yankee Reef. These reservoirs are part of a complex hydroelectric and recreational system that shaped the region's 20th-century development. Near the western edge of the forest, the settlement of Sid Town sits along a network of logging and access roads including Alley Rd and River Rd.
