Skagit Peak and the surrounding North Cascades high country define this rugged area of the Pasayten Wilderness and Stephen Mather Wilderness. The landscape is a network of sharp ridgelines and deep drainages, where Lightning Creek and Three Fools Creek collect snowmelt from the peaks. Historical transit through these heights is marked by the East Bank Trl and the Castle Pass Trl, which navigate the steep topography between Welcome Basin and Elbow Basin.
