Slack Mtn dominates this portion of the Owyhee County high desert, where water management is the primary marker of human presence. The landscape is defined by a network of small catchments like Jims Reservoir, Burkhart Reservoir, and Daves Reservoir, indicating the area's significance for livestock grazing. Named valleys and canyons such as Sunshine Valley and West Fork Cougar Canyon cut through the terrain, while elevated features like Nickel Creek Table and June Grass Table provide flat-topped vistas. The presence of Hawes Pasture and numerous remote springs, including Jackass Spring and Frying Pan Spring, speaks to the long history of range management in this part of southwestern Idaho. Access is primarily limited to a few arterial tracks, most notably Mud Flat Rd and Juniper Mountain RD, which wind between the drainages of Deep Cr and Slack Cr.
