About this map

Slovak remains the cultural center of this portion of the Grand Prairie, a region defined by its flat topography and agricultural water management. The legacy of Eastern European settlement in Prairie County is clearly visible through the Russian Orthodox Cem and the Czech National Cem located further north on Czech Cemetery Rd. The landscape is dominated by sophisticated irrigation systems and large water bodies like Peckerwood Lake, Hartz Reservoir, and Thomas Reservoir Number 2, which support the intensive rice and grain farming for which the area is known. Smaller hamlets such as Tollville and Siedenstricker sit among a grid of section roads, while natural drainages like La Grue Bayou and Wolf Island Slash provide a contrast to the engineered irrigation basins and the small Skarda/Tollville Airport.
