Hitchcox sits at the heart of this high-altitude landscape where the Cumberland Plateau meets the Tennessee Valley Divide. The terrain is defined by a series of prominent ridges and knobs, including Smartt Mtn and Hitchcox Mtn, which separate the drainage of Piney Cr from the winding course of Big Brushy Cr. This area, spanning the borders of Van Buren, Bledsoe, and Sequatchie Counties, shows a transition from the level plateau surfaces to more intricate valley systems like Smiths Cove.
