Smithdale and the surrounding Amite County countryside are defined by a network of creek drainages and a remarkably dense distribution of small family and community burial grounds. The landscape is carved by the W Fork Amite River and the E Fork Amite River, which enclose a region of small settlements like Hustler and Mount Olive. This 2012 survey provides a clear look at the rural road patterns that have connected these isolated communities for generations, from Rollinson RD to Cowart RD.
