Smithdale and the surrounding rural communities of Amite County are defined by the winding tributaries of the W Fork Amite River and E Fork Amite River. The landscape is a network of small family-named settlements and local crossroads including Hustler, Mars Hill, and Mount Olive. These areas remain largely agrarian, tied together by a dense grid of county roads such as Rollinson RD and Fenn RD.
