Bayou Bartholomew snakes through the center of this landscape, its complex meanders defining the agricultural and hydrologic character of eastern Ashley County. The terrain is a network of cypress-laden brakes and sloughs, including Simpson Brake, Perkins Slough, and Holloway Brake, which illustrate the traditional drainage patterns of the Arkansas Delta. These wetlands surround several significant oxbow features like Lake Grampus and Horseshoe Lake.
