The Sonsela Buttes dominate the high-elevation landscape within the Navajo Indian Reservation, straddling the border between Arizona and New Mexico. This region is characterized by a network of vital water sources in an otherwise arid environment, including Oak Spring, Star Peak Springs, and the Black Lake area. Small settlements such as Milkwater and White Bridge are situated along the lower drainage paths of Crystal Creek and Green Meadows Creek.
