Lincoln National Forest occupies the southwestern portion of this high-desert landscape, where the border of Chaves and Otero counties runs along the southern townships. The terrain is defined by a dense network of drainages and canyons, most notably Sargent Canyon, which winds through the center of the survey area. This is a region shaped by water management in an arid environment, as evidenced by features like South Taylor Tank and the various draws including Collier Tank Draw and Holt Tank Draw.
