The Missouri River carves a sweeping path through this southwestern portion of Great Falls, defining a landscape of dramatic bends and river islands including Park Island, Taylor Island, and the White Bear Islands. The transition from the urban grid to the open Montana plains is marked by the distinct elevations of Sun River Bench and Truly Bench, while the Sun River enters the main channel from the west. This 2017 survey documents the modern layout of the city’s southern expansion and key infrastructure, such as the Great Falls International Airport situated atop Gore Hill.

Educational and memorial sites are prominent on the eastern side of the river, where the Univ of Great Falls and the Montana State Univ - Great Falls Coll of Technology are located. Nearby, a cluster of significant local cemeteries including Highland Cem, Mount Olivet Cem, and Calvary Cem provide valuable geographical context for genealogists.
