Spanish Fork and Mapleton anchor the northwestern portion of this Utah landscape, where the residential grids of the valley floor meet the abrupt rise of the Wasatch Range. The complex water management of the region is evident in the network of irrigation infrastructure, including the Strawberry Highline Canal, Mapleton Lateral, and Mill Race Canal, which supported the agricultural development of the East Bench.

Deep in the canyon to the southeast, the small settlement of Castilla sits near Castilla Springs along the Spanish Fork river. This area showcases the transition from the developed valley at Moark Junction and Gomex to the protected wilderness of the Uinta National Forest. Rising high above the canyons, Spanish Fork Peak and Dry Diamond Ridge dominate the eastern topography, offering a clear view of the contrast between the organized irrigation of the lowlands and the steep, drainage-cut terrain of the mountain front.
