About this map

Kiamichi Mountain dominates the northern horizon of this Pushmataha County landscape, where the rugged terrain transitions into the valley of Spencer Creek. The early 1970s settlement pattern is defined by small, dispersed rural communities and their local landmarks, including the settlements of Oleta, Corinne, and Spencerville. This area shows a deep-rooted social infrastructure centered on country churches such as Blackjack Ch, Goodwater Ch, and Spencerville Ch, often accompanied by small family or community cemeteries. To the southwest, the rising waters of Hugo Lake begin to alter the drainage patterns of Hog Creek and Frazier Creek. Industrial traces are modest but present, including a Gravel Pit near Oleta and a Quarry in the southern hills, while the Caney Trail and High Bridge provide historical evidence of the local transportation network crossing this wooded Kiamichi river country.
