Spodue Mtn and the Black Hills anchor the high ground of this landscape, marking the boundary between the Winema National Forest and Fremont National Forest. The geography is defined by a series of distinct plateaus and basins, including Cordelia Flat, Elde Flat, and the expansive Knot Tableland. Water is a critical element in this high-elevation terrain, with numerous named sources such as Tim Brown Spring, Cottonwood Springs, and Essex Springs feeding into the drainage of the Sycan River. In the southern portion of the map, the terrain descends into the Sprague River Valley, where the environment transitions from timbered slopes to broader meadows. This 2017 survey reveals a network of forest roads and residential developments like Terrill Dr and Lovely Rd carving into the foothills near Wild Billy Lake, showing how human habitation has adapted to the natural contours of the Klamath County highlands.
