Sponseller Mountain and the surrounding high country of the Sitgreaves National Forest define this area of the Colorado Plateau in eastern Arizona. The landscape is marked by a complex network of volcanic peaks and cinder cones, including Ziegler Mtn, Marshall Mtn, and the Antelope Hills. Water management is the primary human imprint on the terrain, evidenced by a dense concentration of stock tanks such as Sponseller Lake, Liegler Tank, and Brusally Tank that support the local ranching economy.
