The settlement of Spruce and the surrounding woodlands of Alcona and Alpena counties are the focus of this 2017 survey. The landscape is defined by the transition from agricultural tracts in the north to the denser vegetation of Lost Lake Woods and the Huron National Forest to the south. Numerous small lakes and wetlands are scattered across the terrain, including Badger Lake, Deer Lake, and the expansive Ludwig Swamp. For those researching local family history, the Caledonia Township Cem is a prominent landmark located west of the main settlement.
