The Sabine River forms the central corridor of this mid-1990s borderland survey, marking the state line between Louisiana and Texas. The community of Starks serves as the local hub on the eastern side, while Deweyville and Ruliff occupy the western bank. This landscape is defined by its complex hydrology, where Sabine Island and Wembly Island sit amidst a network of meanders, including Old River and Cutoff Bayou. Much of the southern portion is dedicated to the State Wildlife Management Area, preserving the wetlands surrounding Indian Lake.
