Steamboat Mesa stands as a prominent geological feature in this high-elevation landscape along the border of Utah and Colorado. The terrain is defined by complex drainage systems and abrupt topography, where Ryan Crk and Granite Crk carve through the mesa country. In the southern portion of the sheet, the Dolores River cuts across the corner, featuring the Stateline Rapids exactly where the state boundary intersects the water's path. This area represents a classic Western transition between high plateau parks and deep river canyons.
