Stockton and Armathwaite anchor this portion of Fentress County, where the plateau landscape is deeply incised by the tributaries of the Big South Fork. Much of the eastern half is occupied by the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area, a region defined by dramatic landforms like The Narrows and numerous sandstone ridges including Sawtooth Ridge, Tar Kiln Ridge, and McKinley Ridge.
