Stone Barn Camp and its namesake Stone Barn Spring anchor this portion of the McCullough Peaks in Park County. The landscape is defined by an intricate network of drainages and seasonal water sources, including the creatively named Back Scratcher Reservoir and Crazy Quilt Reservoir. These small-scale water management features highlight the necessity of capturing runoff in this arid environment, where intermittent flows like Whistle Cr and its western branch, W Br Whistle Cr, carve through the high desert terrain. The area is marked by significant topographical relief, from the depths of Rough Gulch and Roan Wash to the prominent heights of the peaks themselves. This 2015 U.S. Geological Survey representation of the high plains offers insight into the ranching infrastructure and hydrological adaptations required to sustain operations at remote outposts like the camp.
