String Buttes and the surrounding high plains of Dunn County are defined by a network of seasonal drainages and isolated landforms rising above the Missouri River plateau. This 2014 survey captures the intricate shoreline of Skunk Creek Bay, an inlet of Lake Sakakawea that dominates the northern reaches of the quadrangle. The drainage systems of Skunk Cr and the S Fork Skunk Cr carve through the landscape, illustrating the erosion patterns that characterize this part of the Fort Berthold Reservation.
