Isle Royale National Park dominates this topography, defined by its characteristic northeast-southwest trending ridges and protected wilderness. The landscape is structured by prominent elevations including Mt Desor, the island's highest point, and Sugar Mtn. These ridges, such as Greenstone Ridge and Minong Ridge, dictate the drainage patterns of numerous waterways like Washington Creek and the Little Siskiwit River. Along the southeastern shore, Siskiwit Bay and Cornelian Beach meet the waters of Lake Superior, while the interior is punctuated by significant bodies of water such as Lake Desor and Lily Lake. Human history is marked by the Isle Royale Cem and a network of footpaths including the Greenstone Ridge Trl and Island Mine Trl, reflecting the island's transition from early industrial extraction to its status as the Isle Royale Wilderness.
