The boundary line between Pratt County and Barber County bisects this south-central Kansas landscape, where the prairie begins to break into the complex drainage systems of the Medicine Lodge River watershed. The terrain is defined by the branching tributaries of South Elm Creek, including the W Br S Elm Cr and the winding East Branch South Elm Creek. These waterways create a series of draws and ridges that stand in contrast to the more level agricultural sections found further north.
