Yellowstone National Park and Shoshone National Forest meet in this high-altitude landscape defined by the rugged peaks of the Absaroka Range. The eastern entrance to the park is carved through Sylvan Pass, a critical corridor along the East Entrance Road that transitions travelers from the forest into the volcanic terrain of the plateau. High-elevation hydrology is centered on Sylvan Lake and the smaller Eleanor Lake, while the southwestern corner of the sheet reaches the shores of Yellowstone Lake near Brimstone Basin.
