The Siuslaw National Forest dominates this coastal stretch of the Oregon shoreline, where the dense topography of the Coast Range meets the Pacific Ocean. This 2017 survey details a complex hydrologic system of freshwater lakes and tidal creeks situated just inland from the beach, including the expansive Tahkenitch Lake with its numerous geographical arms and islands like Jewitt Island and Weed Island. The landscape is defined by these water bodies, from the narrow Tahkenitch Creek to isolated basins such as Carter Lake and Threemile Lake. While much of the terrain is protected forest land, local access is preserved through routes like Booth Rd and Sparrow Park Rd, which navigate the ridges between the shoreline and the higher elevations to the east. The map captures the transitional zone where the Lane and Douglas county line crosses the coastal dunes and timberland.
