The Tahquamenon River winds through this landscape of the Upper Peninsula, carving a path through a dense network of lakes and marshes along the border of Schoolcraft and Luce counties. In the southern portion of the sheet, the river enters an intricate wetland system known as The Spreads, where the water disperses into a complex of smaller channels and saturated terrain. This area is defined by its glacial legacy, visible in the high density of named water bodies like Whitney Lake, Hanes Lake, and Bear Lake that dot the plains between established truck trails.
