Tanana sits at the confluence of two of Alaska's most significant interior waterways, where the Tanana River meets the Yukon River. This 2023 survey documents the modern layout of the settlement, including the Tanana Cem and the surrounding transportation network of the Mission Hill Road and Tanana Road. The landscape is dominated by a complex system of islands and waterways, including Mission Island, Sixmile Island, and Twelvemile Island, which suggest a dynamic river environment where landforms are shaped by seasonal ice and flow.
