Tangle Blue Lake and its namesake creek lie at the heart of this high-elevation mountain landscape, where the boundary between Klamath National Forest and Shasta National Forest follows the crest of the Scott Mountains. The 2022 survey documents a complex network of glacial cirques and alpine basins, including Big Bear Lake, Wee Bear Lake, Little Bear Lake, and Log Lake. The upper reaches of the Trinity River flow through the eastern portion of the sheet, creating natural clearings like Sunflower Flat and Meter Meadow amidst the timber. A legacy of backcountry travel is evident in the numerous routes traversing the area, most notably the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail, which winds past Black Rock and through the high passes. The map also records smaller water systems such as Eagle Creek and Minnehaha Creek, illustrating the drainage patterns that feed into the larger Trinity watershed.
