The high-altitude border between Idaho and Montana is defined by the Continental Divide Trail as it winds through the Madison Range. This mid-1960s survey captures a landscape dominated by the convergence of three federal lands: Gallatin National Forest, Beaverhead National Forest, and Targhee National Forest. In the lower half of the map, the northern waters of Henrys Lake meet the Henrys Lake Flat, where the shoreline is marked by Staley Springs and a Fish Hatchery. Local land use is evidenced by several named agricultural outposts such as Wild Rose Ranch, Webster Ranch, and Johnson Ranch. The topography rises sharply toward the northeast corner at Targhee Peak, while Raynolds Pass serves as a critical geographic transition point between the two states and the Madison and Fremont county lines.
