About this map

The South Fork Humboldt River carves through the landscape of the South Fork Valley, where modern residential expansion meets the historic transit routes of northern Nevada. This 2021 study shows the suburban growth of Spring Creek pushing toward the western slopes of the Elko Hills. The terrain is defined by a series of drainages, including Tenmile Cr, Mitchell Cr, and Butterfield Cr, which feed the prominent South Fork Reservoir at the southwestern corner of the quadrangle. Historic movement across this high-desert floor is evidenced by the preservation of the Emigrant Trl and the Elko Hamilton Stage Rd, showing how modern infrastructure such as Nv State Park Rd follows the same natural corridors established by 19th-century travelers.
