Devils Gate Ranch sits near the southeastern corner of this Elko County landscape, where the North Fork Humboldt River flows through a network of drainages and seasonal water sources. The terrain is defined by its hydrology, centered on the convergence of Twin Springs Creek and Big Creek, which lead toward the distinctive geological pinch point known as The Narrows. Numerous high-elevation water sources including McKnight Springs, Wildcat Spring, and Horse Spring indicate the critical role of water management for ranching and wildlife in this high-desert environment. To the south, Horse Basin and Long Canyon provide a glimpse into the topographical features that shape movement across this portion of northern Nevada during the early twenty-first century.
