The Absaroka Range dominates this portion of the Gallatin National Forest, defining a landscape of high alpine peaks and complex drainage systems. Prominent summits such as The Needles, Boulder Mtn, and Carbonate Mtn reach into the high elevations, separated by critical crossings like Silver Pass. This terrain is the headwaters for numerous creeks including Meatrack Cr, Fourmile Cr, and Snowslide Cr, which feed into larger arteries like the Boulder River.
