The Suwannee River flows through the heart of this landscape, defining the boundaries and movement within the southern reaches of the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge. This experimental photomap captures a complex mosaic of swamp and land where water levels dictate the terrain, from the open waters of Billys Lake to the shaded rises of Mixons Hammock and Cravens Hammock.

Evidence of historical industry is etched into the terrain via the Dismantled Logging Tram, a relic of earlier timber extraction that once navigated the dense wetlands.
