The Salmon River carves through the southern portion of this landscape, flanked by the settlement of Torreys and recreational points like the Torreys Hole Floatboat Access. Most of the terrain is defined by the high-elevation drainages of the Challis National Forest, where steep canyons are formed by Thompson Cr, Cinnabar Cr, and Buckskin Cr. A network of forest and mountain roads, including Thompson Creek Rd and Robinson Bar Rd, provides access to the interior, while State Hwy 75 follows the river corridor. To the northwest, Custer Lookout stands as a prominent vantage point over a complex system of gulches and creeks, such as Oster Gulch and Cherry Cr, reflecting the region's managed wilderness and watershed importance in Custer County.
