Upper Thompson Lake, Middle Thompson Lake, and Lower Thompson Lake form a chain of glacial waters that dominate this section of the Kootenai National Forest. This interior Montana landscape is defined by the three-way intersection of Lincoln, Flathead, and Sanders counties, where steep drainages like Slimmer Creek and Hallelujah Cr feed into the lake system. High points such as Bowers Peak overlook a network of specialized access roads, including Upper Thompson Lake Rd and Plum Cr Timber Co Rd, indicating the importance of the timber industry to the local economy. On the eastern edge of the survey, the Campbell Ranch Airport provides a rare point of aviation access in a region primarily managed for its natural resources and forest health. Smaller water bodies like Rainbow Lake and Eli Lake are tucked into the northern ridges, connected by forest development roads that thread through the complex topography.
