Blanco Wash carves a broad drainage path through this high desert landscape on the border of San Juan and Rio Arriba counties. The topography is dominated by massive elevated formations, notably the sprawling Blanco Mesa and its neighbor, Thompson Mesa, which define the eastern half of the sheet. The terrain illustrates a complex network of arid drainage patterns, with Selph Canyon and Dufers Point serving as prominent landmarks for navigation across the high plateaus. While the area remains largely undeveloped, a skeletal network of rural routes like Co Rd 7425 and Co Rd 7575 provides access to the interior. This 2023 survey documents the modern state of these traditional New Mexico rangelands, capturing the exact contours of the canyons and mesas before they are further altered by time or industry.
