Thrall and Burkett anchor this rural landscape along the boundary of Chase and Greenwood counties, where the high prairie begins to fold into the drainage basins of the Verdigris River system. The topography is defined by a series of branching creek valleys, including Slate Cr and Indian Cr, which have carved a rolling dissected upland typical of the eastern Kansas plains. Near the southern edge of the sheet, Sinclair Lake provides a localized water catchment amidst the agricultural grid.
