Three Bar Ranch sits at the center of this 2020 landscape where the high plains of Wyoming meet the southern border of Montana. This transition zone is defined by a dense network of drainages that carve the terrain, most notably the winding course of Three Bar Cr and its primary tributaries, the N Fork Three Bar Cr and S Fork Three Bar Cr. The northern edge of the map crosses the state line, showing the upper reaches of Bay Horse Cr as it flows north. In the southern portion, the map captures the headwaters of Buffalo Cr as it descends toward Powder River County. Movement across this cattle-country terrain is limited to a handful of unpaved routes, primarily Three Bar Rd and Bay Horse Rd, which follow the natural contours of the ridges and valleys.
