The Saint Joe River cuts through the northern reaches of this Idaho panhandle landscape, carving the steep Skookum Canyon as it flows westward. Located within the St. Joe National Forest, this terrain is defined by a series of prominent summits and ridges, most notably the namesake Three Sisters group—comprising Little Sister Peak, Mid Sister Peak, and E Sister Peak. High-elevation basins like Sisters Basin sit tucked beneath these peaks, which served as critical landmarks for early forest management and fire lookout activities.
