Targhee National Forest dominates the northern landscape of this Clark County survey, where the high country transitions into the drainage systems of the eastern Idaho desert. The terrain is defined by a series of south-trending watercourses, including the W Fork Cottonwood Cr and E Fork Cottonwood Cr, which converge as they exit the mountainous timber. This area, known locally as Pleasant Valley and Lower East Cottonwood, shows a remote network of forest and range roads such as Sky Line Rd and Thunder Gulch Rd that facilitate access to the interior. The name Thunder Gulch itself marks a prominent topographical feature in the southwestern portion of the map, while Hootie Springs provides a rare named water source amidst the complex network of seasonal creeks like Patelzick Cr and Cow Creek.
