Tomhegan Pond and the surrounding Somerset County woodlands are defined by a complex network of waterways and timber-access routes as they appeared in 2011. The northwestern corner of the map features the Canada Falls Dam at the head of Canada Falls Lake, controlling the flow of the South Branch Penobscot River. This area is characteristic of the Maine North Woods, where the landscape is shaped by industrial forestry and watershed management rather than traditional town centers.
