The Detroit Mountains dominate the northeastern corner of this desert landscape, where the terrain drops sharply toward the low-lying Swasey Bottom. This arid region on the border of Millard and Juab counties is defined by its drainage patterns, with Swasey Wash, Fish Springs Wash, and Dry Lake Cr carving routes across the expansive Whirlwind Valley. Remote desert tracks such as Swazey Knoll Rd and the curiously named Rough Son-Of-A-Gun Rd provide the only access through these high-altitude basins. The map illustrates a classic Great Basin environment where water is scarce, and the namesake knolls and peaks serve as the primary navigation points for those traveling through the valley floor.
