Cottonwood Cr winds through this arid expanse of Reeves County, defining a landscape shaped by intermittent water and sparse desert landmarks. The terrain is marked by significant topographical shifts, from the prominent Round Mtn in the northeast to the wide, low-lying depressions of China Draw and Coalson Draw. This 2016 survey illustrates the vital importance of water sources in the high desert, documenting a series of remote watering points including Canyon Spring, Twin Spring, and Johnson Spring. A network of county roads, such as Co RD 237 and Co RD 222, provides the only modern infrastructure through this ranching country. At the eastern edge, Johnson Lake and livestock improvements like Willis Tank and Rock Tank highlight the human effort to manage the local hydrology for cattle and land use.
