Toyei sits at the heart of this high-desert landscape in the Fort Defiance Agency, serving as a hub for the surrounding community. The focal point of the settlement is Toyei School, located at the junction of several arterial routes including Indian Rte 9000 and Indian Rte 9031. The geography is defined by significant drainages and geological formations, most notably Steamboat Canyon in the northeast corner and the winding course of Steamboat Wash to the south.
