Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore dominates this portion of the Upper Peninsula, where the shore of Lake Superior meets a landscape defined by an intricate network of inland water bodies and streams. The N Country National Scenic Trail traverses the northern edge of the sheet, hugging the coastline along Twelvemile Beach. This 2019 survey documents the wild character of the Alger and Schoolcraft county line, where the terrain is punctuated by significant hydrology including Beaver Lake, Sevenmile Lake, and the clustered Burrell Lakes.
