Big Lagoon and its delicate coastal barrier, the Big Lagoon Spit, dominate this 2018 survey of the Humboldt County coastline. The interface between the Pacific Ocean and the terrestrial landscape is defined by dramatic geologic features like Turtle Rocks and Abalone Point. Settlement is concentrated at Big Lagoon, where local infrastructure such as Big Lagoon Park Rd and Roundhouse Creek Rd provides access to the shoreline and recreational paths like the Rim Trail.
