High-altitude peaks of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains define this portion of Santa Fe County as it was surveyed in 2011. The map is anchored by the massive profiles of Truchas Peak, North Truchas Peak, and Middle Truchas Peak, which form a dominant ridge system. This landscape is a watershed for numerous alpine streams including Rio de las Trampas and the forks of the Rio Quemado. Evidence of mountain life and recreation is noted at isolated outposts such as Brazos Cabin and Panchuela West Cabin.
