The Sangre de Cristo Mountains dominate this high-altitude landscape, where the ridges of the Santa Fe Mountains intersect with the boundaries of Carson National Forest and Santa Fe National Forest. This 2023 survey documents the dramatic topography of the Truchas massifs, featuring North Truchas Peak, Mid Truchas Peak, and the primary Truchas Peak summit. A complex network of alpine trails, including the Sky Line Trl and Trailriders Trl, connects high-elevation basins such as those holding the Truchas Lakes and Jose Vigil Lake. The map illustrates the headwaters of numerous waterways like the Rio Medio and Panchuela Creek as they descend from the Trailriders Wall. This modern data provides a clear view of the hydrological and topographic features across the intersection of Rio Arriba, Mora, and Santa Fe counties.
